On Saturday, Sharon United Methodist Church working in partnership with Hope and Encouragement for Humanity — a non-profit in Lenawee County, held its second food distribution event. Fifty-four volunteers gave out 40,000 pounds of food in 1,250 boxes to more than 250 vehicles.
Church member Shirley Disch, stated, “Our church loves people. [The food distribution is] one way we have reached out to our local community with the love of Christ.” She explained, “The theme of this free food distribution, ‘Blessed to be a blessing,’ was lived out as each person who drove up was encouraged to take additional boxes to share with their neighbor or others who could use a blessing of milk, cheese, cooked meats, potatoes, onions and fresh fruit.”
The first free food box distribution event was held at Sharon United Methodist Church on December 5, 2020 which means that they’ve distributed 80,000 pounds of food into our community in three months.
Disch stated, “This opportunity to bless the community represents the living out of Sharon UMC mission statement which reads: Come. Follow Jesus. Partner with God. Serve the Community Together.”
Each recipient was also given a Gospel presentation, health information for seniors, and information about their Clean Water campaign, which we will have more information about next week in the Mirror.
