A quick peek at one section of the Acorn area of the new Market at 455 W. Main Street.

It’s literally a snapshot … but things are definitely coming together at the new location for Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café, which will also house the Grand River Brewery’s butcher shop and bakery, the Perky Pantry Plus, and Iorio Gelato.

On West Main Street, 455 is definitely the place to be!

The Mirror was fortunate to get a secret tour of the location on Saturday and see how things are progressing. While shelving goes in, refrigerators and freezers are getting placed, final finishing touches are going on some of the produce bins, and construction is wrapping up, it was becoming easier than ever to see the shape of things to come.

Acorn store manager Kenny Frost predicts a May 1 opening for the new facility and things are starting to get real. Hours for the Acorn section of the market will likely be different from the Perky Pantry but eventually may expand to as much as 84 hours per week.

Construction manager Joel Dalenberg is optimistic now that the electrical issues are resolved, construction is moving along on pace with the schedule and all will be ready soon.

“We had estimated we would need 30% more power than we already had,” he explained. “As it turned out, what we needed was more like double the power.” Cooperation between contractors and Consumers Energy helped get the job done promptly.

After more than two years without a full grocery store in the community, Manchester is eager to welcome its newest business venture. Much preparation still needs to be done, but the process is in the right hands. The coming month will be a busy and productive one for everyone involved.

Keep watching … the excitement is building, and we will have a new grocery store … soon!
