On Thursday morning, March 25, Manchester awoke to a social media feed full of speculation about armed law enforcement officers in Carr Park at the edge of the village, and additional vehicles and personnel further west in Manchester Township on Herman Road.
According to Township Supervisor Ron Milkey, Manchester Township was notified later that morning, that a joint FBI/Homeland Security raid had occurred, related to a cyber security issue. He emphasized that there was no danger to the general public, but that no further information was made available to him at that time.
On Friday, Milkey contacted the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office to try and learn of any updates.
“I was told there was no new information forthcoming from the federal agencies that were involved,” he said. “It was reiterated that it was a search warrant operation by the FBI and Homeland Security related to some type of trafficking.”
He added that Federal agents are normally over-prepared for any eventuality, which likely accounted for the large number of vehicles and personnel in the general vicinity.
“It was stressed that there was never any danger to the general public in the area of the operation,” he said. “No further information is available at this time.”
