The Manchester Seed Library is currently located in the vestibule of the Manchester District Library and accessible during the MDL’s open hours.

The seed library is back!

Since 2014 the Manchester District Library (MDL) has hosted the Manchester Seed Library which serves as a location for community members to come pick out and take home free seeds. Last year, because the MDL was closed due to COVID-19, the free seeds normally distributed through the seed library were available for pick-up at Acorn. This year, the MDL is open again for curbside pick-up, and the seed library is set up for self-service in the vestibule of the MDL, accessible whenever the library is open.

The seed library is accessible Monday through Friday 11 am to 6 pm and Saturday 10 am to 2 pm. The MDL is located at 912 City Road. Please wear a mask when using the seed library and wait to enter the vestibule if someone is already accessing the seed library.

The Manchester Seed Library is a collaboration between the Manchester Community Garden Committee and the MDL. The purpose is to provide a platform for members of the community to exchange saved seeds and excess commercial seeds with each other, and as a way to distribute free vegetable seeds to promote gardening and healthy eating. These seeds were purchased with funds from 5 Healthy Towns Foundation and/or donated by other Seed Library patrons.

Do you have extra seeds from previous years? Please consider donating any excess seeds you have, including seeds you’ve saved, by handing them to a library staff member curbside or bringing them to the front desk of the MDL when it reopens for in-person access.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
