Currently, 53.5% of all Washtenaw residents 16+ and 82% of Washtenaw residents 65+ have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. How does Manchester compare to the rest of the county?

The Health Department keeps track of and reports publicly the number of vaccines they themselves give to residents of different Washtenaw zip codes. Currently they have given 680 first doses to residents of 48158. But, these numbers only give a limited picture, as they don’t include vaccines given by hospitals, pharmacies, the VA, or vaccines given outside of the county.

The State of Michigan does keep track of how many vaccines have been given to residents of each zip code but that information is not yet available to the public.

Because of local confusion surrounding Manchester’s vaccination percentages, Laura Seyfried, director of the Community Resource Center, reached out to the county and asked how we are doing with vaccinations compared to the rest of the county.

The answer?… Not so bad!

Based on those unofficial, preliminary numbers from the state, Manchester appears to be vaccinating at about the same rate as the rest of the county, slightly lower than the county average for the 16+ group, and very slightly higher than the county average for the 65+ group.

Initially Manchester residents were driving out of county and even to Ohio to get a vaccine, but there are now multiple nearby vaccine options. And while appointments were at first hard to get, getting an appointment for a vaccine has become much easier just in the last week!

The Washtenaw County Health Department has a mass vaccination site for the west side of the county in Chelsea at the closed Pierce Lake Elementary School located at 275 N. Freer Road. You can schedule an appointment here: http://bit.ly/WCHDChelseaVax. For anyone who cannot check online for appointments, phone or email assistance is available (734-544-6700 or L-wchdcontact@washtenaw.org). Do you need a ride? Once you have an appointment to get the vaccine, you can make a reservation for a free WAVE shuttle bus ride to get your vaccine at the Pierce Lake site by calling (734) 475-9494.

Looking for more options? Visit this webpage maintained by the Health Department for links to pharmacies, health care systems, and non-health department mass vaccination sites: https://bit.ly/vaxlocations.

The Health Department even has a Nurse on the Run mobile team that can provide vaccination in individuals in their homes if they meet program criteria. To request this support, please call 734-544-6700 or email L-wchdcontact@washtenaw.org. Capacity is limited and it may take longer to request vaccination this way.
