Many stores are closed here but Manchester can afford “fireworks.”

Besides that, people who do not have pets or do not like them do not have a clue how fireworks affect pets or any type of wild animal.

I live at Woodhill Senior Apartments across the street from the Carr Park where the fireworks are set off. Once they start, our building shakes as if it were being bombed. It lasts for hours. Right behind my building is like a wildlife sanctuary. A few years ago sandhill cranes got separated from their babies and cried for them for over a week.

This last Sunday evening fireworks were heard “already” at 9:45 pm. For the last three years I’ve taken care of a 12-year-old feral cat that is allowed to come in to my apartment to take short naps during the day. He is always out all night. Sunday evening when the fireworks sounded, he came crying by my patio door and wanted to come in. He went straight behind my couch for cover.

The very loud beer tent party also goes on till 1:00 am or 2:00 am.
