Letter to the Editor: Better safe than sorry
August 29, 2021
To the Editor:
As someone who has been affected personally by covid as well as has a child who is continuing to suffer what covid wrought, I find the mask debate horrifying.
The fact that masks were politicized, that talking heads became ‘experts’ and scientists were labeled villains, means the twilight zone has arrived.
I don’t have extra energy to be angry at those who will not listen. They have made their choice.
Any kind of discourse on Facebook is an oxymoron with people so entrenched. It is a waste of time that digresses to who can yell the loudest. Frankly, my time is too precious to waste in a forum that was mainly founded as an entertainment device.
I will write letters to the board of education, the Washtenaw School District, Health department etc., in regards to our district being one of the few who refuses to declare a mask mandate. We will continue to wear masks and follow protocols.
John F. Kennedy once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you — Ask what you can do for your country.” Wearing masks is a simple task and too many people have made it into political versus a public health crisis. Something so simple is being ignored and for that reason, so many vulnerable people will lose their lives, whether through death or permanent disability.
I would rather be safe than sorry, proactive than reactive. Honestly, I would rather be wrong and everyone safe, in order to avoid anyone else going through what my family and I have gone through.
Sincerely,
Kim Blumenstein
