Letter to the editor: Wearing a mask?
September 9th, 2021
According to the report on the front page of the Manchester Mirror dated Wednesday, September 8, 2021, since school began last Tuesday, Manchester Community Schools has reported 8 positive cases of COVID-19 among staff and students. I couldn’t believe what I saw and heard on local Channel 7 TV, that the school that my grandkids attend was the only school in Washtenaw County that did not have a mask mandate.
School age kids get the thoughts and feelings from their parents and now still a lot have not been vaccinated. We are supposed to wear the masks to help each other stay safe from the COVID. I have been vaccinated but have several surgeries coming up soon and I need all of the protection I can receive.
Most parents that have school age children are too young to remember when smallpox and polio vaccines became available. I remember when these vaccines were to be administered. My grandmother wasn’t happy with my mother because she wanted me and my sisters vaccinated.
I also remember when my youngest daughter was very sick with the flu at the age of 10 months. She was dehydrated and had to be admitted to the U of M hospital the same year that young children were dying daily from “Rye’s Syndrome.” Some states have reported young children dying from COVID-19.
Feeling uncomfortable wearing a mask?
