Manchester’s middle school basketball teams just completed their first week of games. The eighth grade team finished the week 2-0 with a 31-21 win over Grass Lake on Tuesday, led by Grant Johnson’s 17 points and 6 points from Julian Waters. They followed that up with a victory over Napoleon on Thursday; once again Grant Johnson led with 15 points, followed by 8 from Cade Sayer and 7 from Chase Conklin, according to head basketball varsity coach Zach Neal.

“The seventh grade had a tough week against two tough opponents,” Neal added. “On Tuesday, they lost to Grass Lake 40-5. Thursday they showed a lot of improvement against Napoleon, scoring 50-23.”

Michael Navitskis led the seventh graders with 11 points, followed by 6 points from Donte Johnson.

Seventh-grade coach Lance Fielder was happy with the effort and improvement from the first and second game. “With only six practices before their first game, the team will only get better throughout the season,” Fielder predicted.

The next middle school games will be at home Tuesday vs Hanover Horton.
