Village fall leaf pick-up continues as weather permits

Brush pickup is over for the year, as of the first week in October. And you know it’s really fall when you see piles of leaves raked (or blown) out to the streetside or curb. In Manchester, that means it’s time for the Village DPW and helpers to come by with their trucks and pick up the leaves.

It’s a delicate balance, since windy days can move the leaves from their original location or make another batch fall down overnight. The DPW tries to keep up with everything and hit every street at least once per week.

“Typically, we start on the west side of town then work towards the east side,” said Brent Jones, DPW Chief. “After that we go up into the Ann Arbor Hill area.”

Jones asks that residents get leaves as close to the road as possible, with no sticks or gravel in the pile, which can damage the equipment.

Leaves can be put out through the last day of November. The DPW will make one final trip around town December 1 and 2, if needed.

Putting leaves at the street side or curb helps the DPW crew get the job done efficiently.
