Letter to the editor: Response to letter from “Educated Manchester citizens”
November 19, 2021
The letter to the editor from the educated in Manchester might have been persuasive if not for the fact it went off on a political tirade which revealed the true intent of the letter.
First of all, has this group done this much research into all vaccines required by schools, employers or the military? It is factual that all vaccines have adverse effects and some deaths in all cases. The overriding concern is that the common good is the the goal in all vaccines, the covid vaccine included.
Second, do the signers of the letter disregard all laws or mandates that they disagree with? How about speed limits, taxes, military signup. What about cleaning sidewalks of snow or any other of the myriad of laws or health codes that need to be followed for the common good? Seat belts and “no shirts, no shoes, no service” are other examples.
Third, the group disregards the laws that follow the maxim that you have rights but not to yell fire in a crowded theatre. Their belief that infecting other people is their right when it is preventable is baseless. Myself and many other people in Manchester are in more delicate medical conditions than the educated care to think about. This happens when you only think of yourself and not the community as a whole.
Lastly it should be pointed out that the letter was written in the first person “I”, then it was signed by many. Nowhere in the letter does it state “we believe”. This leads me to believe, in my opinion, that this might be a generic letter from the internet that a group just signed onto. This of course is my opinion, just as valid as the educated in Manchester.
