The seventh-grade basketball team prevailed over East Jackson last week.

As the boys’ varsity and JV basketball seasons get set to begin, the seventh and eighth-grade teams are doing a great job of keeping the winning Dutch tradition going strong.

The Dutch hosted East Jackson Monday in games that were rescheduled from early November. The seventh-grade team posted a 33-12 win over the Jayhawks, led by Max Harvey and Donte Johnson, with 10 points each; followed by Alec Dodak with eight points, and Zane Sayer with five. The eighth-graders also had a hefty win over EJ, ending up with a 37-28 score. Grant Johnson led in scoring with 16 points, followed by Julian Waters with six and Cade Sayer with four.

The eighth-grade Dutch on Tuesday evening had a solid 41-31 win over Grass Lake, led by Grant Johnson with 16 points and Cade Sayer with 12. The seventh grade also posted another win, but scoring stats were not available for that game at press time.

“After not having much of a season last year, both teams have shown so much improvement over the last few weeks,” said varsity head coach Zach Neal. The eighth-grade team is coached by Nick Niehaus and the seventh-graders by Coach Ignash.

The boys will travel to Addison, Napoleon, and Hanover-Horton this week for a busy week of games Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
