After a rough month following the holiday break, the Flying Dutchmen are finding their groove and started off February with a 60-52 win over the East Jackson Trojans last Tuesday night.

“We played our most complete game of the year,” said coach Zach Neal. “We played as a team with 20 assists on 24 made shots. This shows that we were really sharing the ball; this is a change I’ve seen in our team over the last week — everyone is starting to buy-in to working as one.”

Senior Anthony Bargardi made two huge 3-pointers at key points in the game and also played good defense on East Jackson’s best shooter, Neal added. Garrett Corwin made four clutch, fourth-quarter free throws to ice the game.

Other leaders included: Junior Jaxon McGuigan making a career high of 20 points, with seven rebounds and four steals; Aiden Kelly followed up with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists; Corwin ended up with a total of 12 points in the game; and Andy Campbell scored one point and had a career high of eight assists.

With a weather-related postponement of the Napoleon game, the Dutch look ahead to this week’s action, where they’ll face three opponents in quick succession: Vandercook Lake on Wednesday, Whitmore Lake on Thursday (at Little Caesar’s Arena — Tickets are still available; check the team Facebook page or email Coach Neal at mailto:zacharyneal@yahoo.com for details on purchasing tickets), and heading to Michigan Center on Friday night.
