Letter to the Editor: Get involved with your community
February 5, 2022
To the Editor:
I would like to clarify the first paragraph of my letter to the editor last week. It was not intended as an affront to the Manchester Township Board. I have apologized and acknowledged that I should have worded it differently, or just left it out. The intent of that paragraph was to remind township residents their board is making decisions every month and that most of us are not familiar with the inner workings of the board. The rest of the letter was to get people to fill out the survey and participate in their local government, to make sure the decisions of the board reflect the entire community.
I believe our township boards are made up of dedicated individuals who have the best interests of their constituents in mind. I also believe residents have some responsibility to make sure the board knows what their concerns are. I applaud the board for making the survey available.
My goal in retirement, as it has always been, is to try to understand problems and figure out solutions. I have little direct power to change things, but I continue to believe that an open dialogue, that allows for different points of view, is how we will find solutions to whatever problems we are beset with at any given time. Writing letters to the editor that are thoughtful and constructive is one way to get that dialogue going. I should have done a better job with that first paragraph.
Sincerely,
Sybil Kolon
