It was a busy and exciting week for the Flying Dutch varsity team.

On Wednesday, the 12-1 state-ranked Vandercook Lake Jayhawks came to town, but the Dutchmen held in for the first half. A small 24-22 deficit at the half, however, turned into a very rough second half.

“We got great contributions from the bench throughout the second half,” coach Zach Neal said. “Jacob Smith led with seven points in the quarter; Alexander Woods made his first 3-pointer, and Trent Aiuto made his first bucket of the year.”

The game ended as a 77-49 loss for the Dutch.

Thursday night, the long-awaited game against Whitmore Lake at Little Caesar’s arena in downtown Detroit, was “an incredible experience for our team, coaches, and community,” Neal said.

Although it was “an ugly game playing on the Pistons court, we pulled it out in the end.”

Jaxon McGuigan’s free throw with 1.8 seconds remaining in the game, gave Manchester the one-point lead and the 34-33 win for the night.

Playing against a hot Michigan Center team on Friday night, the Dutchmen still held their own for most of the first three quarters.

“(Michigan Center) made more plays down the stretch to extend their lead over the last six to eight minutes of the game,” Neal explained.

Aiden Kelly led in scoring with 14 points, followed by McGuigan with seven. The game ended in a 56-37 conference loss for Manchester.

This week, the Dutch will host three games: Hanover on Tuesday and Napoleon on Wednesday. Friday night, East Jackson will be our guests for Senior Night. Go Dutch!
