The Sharon Township Planning Commission will be holding a special meeting regarding the Stoneco special use application on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 7 pm at Sharon United Methodist Church located at 19980 Pleasant Lake Road. Stoneco is applying to create a 400-acre Aggregate Mine on Pleasant Lake Rd.

A recently formed non-profit organization, the Sharon Preservation Society is encouraging residents to attend the meeting. They state, “This phase of the process might seem bureaucratic, BUT it is a very important step. It’s important to understand what will happen. At the meeting, the Sharon Township Planning Commission (PC) expects to make a “determination of need” regarding Stoneco’s application to mine the property on Pleasant Lake Rd. The PC will then send its determination to the township’s Board of Trustees, which makes the final determination on need.”

Organization members are concerned about the serious consequences aggregate mining can pose to a community by the impacting the air, water (both quality and availability), noise, traffic and property values of the community. They state, “as always, it’s very, very important for residents to show they are concerned by showing up!”
