During the month of January there were a total of 188 calls for service; 100 traffic stops were made, resulting in 27 citations.

Noteworthy events in Manchester Village during last month include:

On January 1, a collaboration deputy responded to the 400 block of Lafayette Street for a report of a fraud. The victim reported that she had tried to purchase a dog from an unknown suspect, potentially from Vermont, however never received the dog. When the victim tried to follow up with the suspect, the victim was told payment was needed in the form of $1,800 of gift cards. Payment was made, however the dog still never arrived. At this time, the identity of the suspect is unknown.

On January 22, a collaboration deputy responded to the 600 block of E. Duncan St. for a report of an identity theft. The complainant reported that they were contacted by the State of Michigan unemployment agency regarding an unknown suspect trying to collect unemployment in the complainant’s name. Fortunately, not enough information was provided by the suspect, so the claim was never processed.

Sixteen Ordinance Violations were tagged by deputies in January, 13 of which were snow removal violations. All were corrected by the residents or businesses in question within the required time limit. Three violations, on Clarkson, Beaufort, and Furnace Streets, were for blight vehicles. Those residents were sent letters asking the vehicles be removed or brought into compliance with the village ordinance.
