Spring activities in full bloom at Acorn

Not only does Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café provide local communities with a lovely variety of local foods from farmers, chefs, and bakers as well as crafts and other goods from local artisans, it also reaches out to provide events to enrich the health and friendship of community. All of the following events are located at Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café, 455 W. Main St., here in Manchester. April Events:
On Friday, April 1, at 2 pm, local artist JoAnn Okey will demonstrate the art of Ukrainian Easter Eggs. She will also share her knowledge to teach a small class to paint these beautiful eggs. There is no charge for this class, but donations to either Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café and/or a Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund are much appreciated. Class is limited to only six participants. Please pre-register at farmersmarket48158@gmail.com if you wish to participate. No need to pre-register if you just wish to watch the demonstration.
On Saturday, April 2, from 10 am to 1 pm, Acorn will host our first in a series of Meet the Farmer events with Meet the Vendor: Herbal Hints. Come meet these charming small business owners and learn more about these amazing, healthy, herbal products and how you can best use them!
On Sunday, April 3, from 1 to 4 pm, Old Time Jam will be joining us at Acorn to share lively old time fiddle tunes! Come and just listen, or bring a stringed instrument and join in.
On Saturday, April 9, 11 am to 1 pm, Webbed Foot Pines will join us to share their vast knowledge of the more than 30 varieties of fowl on their farm. Farmer Lucas will start off at 11 am with a farm presentation sharing his knowledge and experience with the community. Come with a question and get half a dozen eggs for free! (Limited to the first 24 participants.) Enter into Webbed Footed Pines’ whole chicken giveaway drawing any time from 11 am to 1 pm with two winners drawn at 1 pm right here at Acorn.
On Sunday, April 10, from 1 to 3 pm, Uke Jam will share their talent and expertise by not only entertaining us with their ukulele playing, but also offering to share their knowledge with beginners of all ages. No need to pre-register to come and listen to the entertainment, but if you’re interested in trying your hand at a ukulele, please pre-register at farmersmarket48158@gmail.com to be sure we have a ukulele for you to borrow.
On Saturday, April 16, at 10:30 am, Clever Creations by Amy will host a darling mini Fairy Farm Garden complete with miniature veggies, baby chicks, cabbage and a Bunny Butt in a cute little crate. We’ll work with polymer clay, moss, foam, and a miniature crate to create our masterpieces. All materials will be supplied; just bring your creativity! $20 each for ages 5+.

On Saturday, April 23, at 2 pm, Chef Keegan Rodgers from The Lakehouse Bakery will teach us all about Incredible Eggs. There is no cost for this event, but donations to Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café are much appreciated. Please pre-register by emailing farmersmarket48158@gmail.com.
On Friday, April 29, at 6:45 pm, we will continue our series of Final Friday’s Films with The Real Dirt on Farmer John, a documentary that captures two decades in the life of Farmer John Peterson, an Illinois farmer who rises out of bankruptcy to save his farm. Local snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
After the viewing, we will further our enjoyment of the movie with a group discussion led by local farmer and Acorn Board Member Megan DeLeeuw. Please register on our website, http://www.
May Events:
Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café will be hosting a special Outdoor Market every first Thursday, May through October, from 3 to 6 pm with fun, family events at every market! Email farmersmarket48158@gmail.com for more information on becoming a vendor.
Acorn’s Outdoor Market will begin on Thursday, May 5 with a special Mother’s Day Tea. There will be FREE tea samples from S.TEA.P and local baked good bites! There will be a lovely variety of gifts for Mom, complete with a free Mother’s Day card make-and-take.
On Friday, May 6 at 5:30 pm, Noggle Farm will join us at Acorn to tell us a little more about themselves, the history of their farm, and their farming practices. Farmer Matt will also dive into cattle nutrition, calving, farming, and more. Come with your questions, and be ready to learn!
Acorn Farmers’ Market and Café is hosting a very special play written and performed by our own Breeda Kelly Miller – Mrs. Kelly’s Journey Home on Sat, May 7, 2022, 2:30 pm, at the Manchester High School located at 20500 Dutch Drive. You can purchase tickets on Eventbrite ($20 – $50).
On Saturday, May 21, 10:30 am, Clever Creations by Amy is back for a second amazing clay class, The Mini Mushroom House! We’ll be adding our own flair to a pre-made a miniature mushroom house (4 inches tall) and adding glow in the dark windows, flowers, doors and more. All materials will be supplied, just bring your creativity. The class is $20 each for ages 5+

June events:
On Thursday, June 2, Acorn Outdoor Market will host our annual Fairy Festival with fun activities scheduled from 3-6 pm. Email farmersmarket48158@gmail.com if you wish to volunteer or be a vendor.
Back by popular demand is The Manchester Fairy Garden Tour, a walking tour of fairy doors and fairy gardens throughout the village of Manchester. Entries are due by Monday, June 6.
