Consumers Energy announces site work at M-52 station
by Marsha Chartrand
Consumers Energy will be doing work on its Reg Station at 10951 M-52 starting May 23 and going through the week of July 22. During this time, there will be construction vehicles and workers on-site.
In addition, on May 27, the company will be venting odorized gas from the station.
“During this time there may be some loud sounds similar to a jet engine, possible hissing, and there will be an odor similar to rotten eggs,“ according to Stephanie Blatt, Community Affairs Manager for CMS Energy. “This is normal and part of the venting process. However, depending on the wind that day the odor could travel some distance and cause concern to surrounding neighbors.“
Blatt has notified Manchester Township Supervisor Ron Milkey as well as Manchester Village Manager Michael Sessions to make sure both are aware of the situation and can reassure residents and businesses that there is no need for concern from the venting gas. Furthermore, the Public Safety Manager has notified the County Emergency Manager about the work, and crews have reached out to 911 to inform them in case they get calls.
Nearby businesses expected to be affected include Manchester True Value Hardware, American 1 Credit Union, McLennan Landscape, Manchester Junior and Senior High School, BP Station, Manchester United Methodist Church, Chuck‘s Auto Repair, and Manchester Ag Parts.
