Memorial Day service set for 11am Monday on Main Street Bridge
by Marsha Chartrand
It will be a smaller celebration, perhaps, than in years past, but this year’s Memorial Day will once again be observed with traditional respect and with gratitude to our veterans starting promptly at 11am on Monday, May 30, on the Main Street Bridge.
American Legion Post #117 Commander Lester Koch has let the Manchester Mirror know that the primary ceremony will be held on the bridge at 11am, following services at the Norvell Cemetery at 10am. The Manchester High School band and the Boy Scouts are currently scheduled to participate, and hopefully a firing squad will be formed to pay tribute to those who have died in service to the country.
A flag-draped trailer will proceed from the bridge to Oak Grove Cemetery, where a wreath will be placed on the soldiers’ monument in a brief ceremony. There will not be a traditional parade as in the past.
Please join the American Legion, its Auxiliary, and the entire Manchester community to say “thank you“ to all of our veterans, especially those who have made the supreme sacrifice.
