Garter snakes are one of many types of non-venomous snakes living in the Manchester area

Snakes are one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet, inspiring fear instead of the love they deserve. Michigan is home to 18 different species of these secretive reptiles, only one of which is venomous. Seniors, age 55 and older, are invited to join naturalist Elle Bogle for an afternoon hike on Wednesday, May 25, from 1 to 3pm in the Brauer Preserve located at 3200 South Parker Rd in Freedom Township to learn all about these creatures and look for them in the different habitats in which they live. Pre-registration is required. Email boglee@washtenaw.org to register.
