Meet the MDL board: Gary Seguin, Manchester Township
submitted by Quintessa Gallinat, Manchester District Library
The Manchester District Library Board of Trustees is an all-volunteer governing body made up of two members from each of the library’s participating service areas: Manchester Village, Manchester Township, Bridgewater Township, and Freedom Township. Trustees create and oversee library policies, administer the budget, and set the strategic plan.
When Gary Seguin first moved to the Village, he lived across from what was then the Manchester Township Library on Main Street by Wurster Park. He spent so much time in the library that he was invited to join the Board of Trustees and served 1993–2003. In addition, he volunteered his time changing light bulbs and mowing the lawn.
In 2008, Seguin, who had by then moved out of the Village though stayed in Manchester Township, returned to the Library Board as a representative from the township and has served ever since, currently as the Board President. Seguin is retired from the State of Michigan and chose to join the MDL Board because he likes libraries. “Books and movies are my favorite things about the library,” he says.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the monthly meetings, held in the Village Chambers of the Community Building on the second Thursday of each month. To learn more or to contact a member of the MDL Board of Trustees, visit manchesterlibrary.info/board-of-trustees.html.
