The 2022 Michigan State Primary election is August 3 and campaigns are in progress. After a 2020 Census delay, Michigan’s newly redrawn congressional and legislative district boundaries (as created by the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Committee) were legalized in March of 2022. The finalized district maps can be explored at https://www.michigan.gov/micrc.

Michigan voters elect one State Senator and one State House Representative per district. The Senate seat is a four-year term and the House Representative serves a two-year term. Under the new maps, our local townships fall in different districts for Michigan State Senate and Michigan State House. Some districts will have multiple candidates facing off in one or both party’s primaries. Others, like the State House in District 33 and the County Commissioner race, have candidates in both parties unopposed in the primaries.

State Senate

Currently, State Senator Lana Theis represents Senate District 22, which includes all four townships. Under the new map, Freedom and Sharon Townships are in District 14, while Manchester and Bridgewater residents are in District 15.
