Luke Somerville is planning to do some much-needed maintenance on Manchester United Methodist Church’s playground. Luke’s Eagle Scout project includes making repairs and replacements to the play structure, replacing the wood border, adding wood chips, and adding a tetherball pole.

“I’ve been in Scouts since the third grade. Now I am entering my senior year of high school and the Eagle Scout Project is the culmination of all my efforts in scouting over the years,“ commented Luke. “I am very excited to end my scouting career with a project that helps my church and local families with young children.”

The playground is available for all families to use and is rated for children 4–12 years old. Luke is targeting to have the project done before his 18th birthday in November, the deadline to become an Eagle Scout. The project cost is $2,400. Luke needs to raise another $1,400. To raise money, there will be a bottle and can drive on Sunday, August 14. If you can contribute bottles and cans, please drop off donations at Manchester United Methodist Church on August 14 between 12–4pm. Bottle and can donations can also be dropped off earlier in the bin next to the doors from the parking lot.

Also, monetary donations are welcome and can be sent to Manchester United Methodist Church at 501 Ann Arbor St, Manchester, MI, 48158. Please make checks payable to Manchester United Methodist Church and note on the check that the funds are for “Luke Somerville MUMC Playground Eagle Scout Project.”
