2023 Historical Society calendars now on sale
by Marsha Chartrand
“Manchester Tidbits“ has been a popular feature of the Manchester Area Historical Society (MAHS) and was chosen as the theme for the 2022 Historical Society calendar. That calendar has been so well-received, that the calendar committee decided to continue to publish more history-related “tidbits,“ many of them researched and written by Ray Berg, that help to tell the story of Manchester’s past.
These well-researched anecdotes will help to keep you informed about the movers and shakers of Manchester long ago. From noteworthy people to iconic businesses, from historic homes to community news and photographs, many of these short tales have been shared widely while others are more obscure.
Learn more about the fascinating stories behind venerable photos you may have seen at the K-J House museum, on the MAHS website, or in Facebook posts. Find out about the circus coming to town and the elephants swimming in the mill pond! (Sorry, no photos there!) Imagine spending a day at Wamplers Lake circa 1851. Who was Harriet Osborn? John Mudget Mack? Conrad Lehn? Was the town jail really once located on the village green in Wurster Park? The answers can be found in the 2023 MAHS calendar, along with many more tidbits of information you’ll really want to know about our hometown.
Calendars are currently available for $10 apiece at the following locations: River Raisin Mercantile, Keith’s Barber Shop, True Value Hardware, Andrews Family Chiropractic, Marti’s Salon, K-J House, Blacksmith Shop, Bridgewater Sales and Service, Fredonia Grocery, and Linda’s Diner.
This major fundraiser has helped the MAHS to preserve the authentic history of the Manchester community since 1984. Even if you think you’re completely digital, you or someone you know probably needs at least one printed calendar for 2023. Make sure that you (and they) get the MAHS “More Manchester Tidbits“ calendar so you’ll have a documented copy of the year to come.
