Meet the MDL Board: Elissa Weidmayer, Freedom Township
submitted by Quintessa Gallinat, Manchester District Library
The Manchester District Library Board of Trustees is an all-volunteer governing body made up of two members from each of the library’s participating service areas: Manchester Village, Manchester Township, Bridgewater Township, and Freedom Township. Trustees create and oversee library policies, administer the budget, and set the strategic plan.
Elissa Weidmayer grew up outside of Dexter and graduated from Dexter High School. She then earned a degree in Operations Management from Grand Valley State University and worked in the automotive industry mainly in supply chain/logistics until the birth of her first child in 2010. She now has three children — ages 12, 9 and 4 — whom she homeschools; however, that did not prevent her from coaching cross country and track for Manchester High School and Manchester Middle School from 2009 to 2016.
“As a homeschooler I utilize the library for resources for both myself and my kids, and I am an avid reader for personal enjoyment as well,” she says about why she joined the MDL Board of Trustees in 2021. “I think it’s important to give back to the community, and I wanted to serve in an area that I have strong knowledge and interest in.” She also loves that the library staff is so helpful and that her access to books and resources isn’t limited to what’s on the library’s shelves.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the monthly meetings, held in the Village Chambers of the Community Building on the second Thursday of each month. To learn more or to contact a member of the MDL Board of Trustees, visit manchesterlibrary.info/
