To the Editor:

On Oct. 3, around 6:30pm, a driver hit our neighbor’s car that was legally parked by the row of mailboxes in front of his house. Not only did it mangle his car, but it took out the row of mailboxes, too.

When our neighbor, Steve Harvey, moved into his house, that row of mailboxes was old, some of them even broken. So our neighbor took it upon himself to rebuild the frame and he (not the Post Office) built black mailboxes and installed them. Did anyone thank him? NO.

Several hours before the accident, Steve and his wife, Rebecca, were once again replacing some of those mailboxes and now they are laying on the ground. Those who use these boxes have done nothing, with the exception of one, to fix them. The person who is delivering the mail now has to get out of his truck to put the mail in the boxes that are laying on the ground. It is not our neighbor’s responsibility to once again refurbish these boxes. The Post Office won’t do it.

Too bad those of you who get your mail in one of these boxes don’t help to fix them. It is not Steve’s responsibility.
