submitted by Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office

During the month of October, there were 197 calls for service. During that time, 104 traffic stops were made resulting in 81 citations. This is a significant increase from September, when there were 175 calls for service, 101 traffic stops made, and 25 citations written.

Sgt. Joel Gebauer explained that during investigation of a traffic incident that happened in September on West Main, deputies received many complaints of excessive speed, particularly in the area between Macomb and Territorial Streets. Subsequent patrols focusing on that area elicited many more warnings and citations during October.

Gebauer also reported that there were no significant incidents to note during the month of October that posed a risk to the general public or were noteworthy to alert the community about.

Collaboration Deputies also investigated seven ordinance violations in October, six of which were violations of the vacant building ordinance. Citations were issued in the 100 Block of Adrian Street, 100 Block of E. Main Street (3), 200 Block of E. Main Street, and 500 Block of Granger Street. In addition, a red-tagged parking violation on Main Street and Adrian was issued, with the violation corrected.

The Sheriff’s Office has recently implemented a new, online police reporting portal. Citizens can now file certain types of police reports online without needing contact with a Deputy or to go to a station. The following types of incidents may be filed online:

• Harassing phone calls/No Known Suspects
• Identity Theft/No Known Suspects
• Lost property
• Larceny/Theft/No Known Suspects
• Damaged Property/Vandalism
• Accidental/Non-Intentional Property Damage

Any and all incidents can still be reported by calling 911; calling Washtenaw Metro Dispatch’s non-emergency dispatch number, (734) 994-2911; or going in person to any of our Community Police Stations. The online reporting portal can be accessed through the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office website, https://www.washtenaw.org/3439/File-a-Police-Report
