Public programs for January 2023 held at the Eddy Discover Center, 17030 Bush Road, Chelsea, are sponsored by the Waterloo Natural History Association. Advanced reservations are requested for all indoor programs. To make reservations call the Discovery Center at 734-475-3170. Programs are presented at the Eddy Discovery Center at 17030 Bush Road in the Waterloo Recreation Area.

To reach the Discovery Center take I-94 to exit 157, go north and follow the signs. All Waterloo Natural History Association sponsored indoor programs are $2 per person or $5 per family with State Recreation Passport. WNHA members are admitted free.

Sunday, January 22: HOW DO BIRDS FLY? 2 – 3pm. Learn the answer to this question while observing the flight adaptations of live raptors brought to you by Michigan Avian Experience. See the miracle of flight in action as a red-tailed hawk flies over your head. Find out how feathers, wing shapes, and body shapes allow these natural hunters to survive in the wild. Cost: $2/person or $5/family. Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd. in the Waterloo Recreation Area near Chelsea. Program limited to 50 participants. Sunday, January 29: ANIMAL TRACKS: 2 – 3 pm. Are you curious about the tracks you see on winter walks? Join Naturalist Robert Ayotte for an illustrated discussion of animal tracking in Michigan. We will focus on print patterns found in snow and learn about track stride and straddle. We will also review some common mammal signs and scats. If there is snow, we will add a one-hour hike on Discovery Center trails to look for tracks and other signs. Be prepared for icy trails. Cost: $2/person or $5/family.
