from Washtenaw County Sheriff Office

During the month of November, there were 150 calls for service. During that time, 87 traffic stops were made, resulting in 59 citations.

Noteworthy events in Manchester Village during November include:

On Nov. 3, a Collaboration Deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of Auburn Street for a report of a fraud. The victim related that an unknown suspect, likely out of California, was able to defraud them out of approximately $29,000 when the suspect posed as an “IRS agent,” saying payment was needed to avoid prosecution for back taxes. Cash payments, along with gift cards, were sent to random PO Boxes in California. The San Jose Police Department attempted to follow up on those addresses, but could not determine any suspect information.

Sgt. Joel Gebauer of the Manchester reminds all residents that the IRS will not contact you by phone and will not ask for gift cards or cash to be mailed. Fraud happens at all times of the year, to all ages. Be aware and do not engage with these individuals — just hang up.

Deputies also dealt with five ordinance violations in the month of November, most of them a result of parking violaions. A letter was issued to a residence in the 300 block of S. Macomb Street regarding trash receptacles; four parking citations were issued — two in the 100 Block of Hibbard, the 600 Block of W. Main, and in the 400 Block of Adrian St.
