Obituary: Russell M. Hieber

Russell M. Hieber (May 14, 1930 – January 17, 2023)

Russell M. Hieber, 92, of Saline, Michigan passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born on May 14, 1930, in Freedom Township, Manchester, Michigan to Rolland and Caroline (Meyers) Hieber.

Russell married the love of his life, Jean Ahrens, on August 19, 1950, in Manchester, Michigan. Russell was an active member of the U.S. Army in the early 1950s. He started his career for Ford Motor Company in 1950 in Manchester and ended at the Saline plant after 40 plus years. At retirement he and his wife, Jean, enjoyed spending winters at their Florida home, until her passing in 2009. Russell was proud of his home and spent much of his time doing yard work and landscaping. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.

Russell will be missed by his children, Kristy Lerma of Saline and Terry Hieber of Tecumseh; brothers Leon Hieber and Ronald “Mick” Hieber; grandson Tony Lerma of Saline; brother-in-law David Ahrens and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Jean, parents, and siblings Jim Hieber, Ken Hieber and Marion Toma.

Russell’s family and friends will gather Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 10am – 11am at Eineder Funeral Homes – Manchester Chapel. His funeral service will be held following visitation at 11:00 am at Eineder Funeral Homes – Manchester Chapel. Interment to follow at Norvell Cemetery.
