The newly christened “Bob & Sonja Rhees Memorial Ice Rink“ at Wurster Park was officially opened for business this week and the annual skating party hosted by the Manchester Men’s Club was serving up hot dogs, hot cocoa, and hospitality to all who attended on Saturday.

The new designation for the rink to honor the memory of the Rhees’ was explained by the club: “Our president, Henry Earhart, felt that naming the rink after Bob and Sonja would be a great way to honor their memory. Bob was one of the Men’s Club founding members and Sonja was always there to volunteer whenever we needed her.

“Without them, there wouldn’t be a Men’s Club. This is our way of remembering all that they gave to Manchester.“

The club, founded in 1982, has sponsored dozens of events over the years, many of them since their inception. They are always there to help the community in any way possible, whether it’s roto-tilling your garden, shooting off the greatest fireworks anywhere around to celebrate Independence Day, or finding you the perfect Christmas tree for your home.

The Men’s Club would also like to thank Manchester’s own Rich Foss and Mighty Fine Designs for donating the sign.

Remember, to help keep the ice in good shape, stay off the rink during the warmer days when the liner could get damaged, stay safe by keeping the hockey players away from the new skaters, and, as always, skate at your own risk. And, of course, have fun!

The Bob & Sonja Rhees Memorial Ice Rink opened this past weekend.

Young skaters had fun learning to stay balanced on the ice (and in the snow)!

Older hockey players were considerate of the inexperienced children and all enjoyed the party hosted by the Men’s Club.
