Manchester High School’s robotics team, also known as Team 6081, Digital Dislocators, traveled to Grand Rapids this past weekend to compete in their first event of the season at Calvin University. This year’s game, Charged Up℠, is a 3v3 game where robots work with their alliance partners (other team’s robots) to earn points through skill and strategy. There is no doubt the Digital Dislocators were charged up at competition— they had a fantastic start, finishing their qualification matches ranked 3rd out of 40 teams with a record of 10–2. As teams went to select their alliance partners for playoff matches, the 1st-ranked team selected the Digital Dislocators as their first pick, the first time this has happened in the Manchester team’s history.

After joining the 1st-seeded alliance, the Digital Dislocators went on to win the event with two Grand Rapids–area teams. The team also won the Excellence in Engineering Award, which celebrates their unique and practical approach to the programming and design of the robot. The Digital Dislocators earned a team-best 71 district points, which will likely secure a spot for the state competition at Saginaw Valley State University at the end of the season in April. They are also more hopeful than ever to advance to the World Championship in Texas, two weeks after the state event in Saginaw.

The team’s next competition will take place at Saline High School from March 30 to April 1. All members of the community are welcome to come out and support.

If you would like to make any contributions to the team, contact firstrtm@gmail.com or mail checks out to: Manchester Community Schools, Attn: Robotics, 20500 Dutch Dr, Manchester, MI 48158. Checks should be made payable to Manchester Community Schools with Robotics on the memo line. The team’s accomplishments would not have been possible without the generosity of our community.

Lastly, it is worth congratulating all students, parents, and mentors for their hard work and extreme dedication to the team. We are excited to see how the season progresses!
