Desserts through the Decades: 1930s
submitted by Laura Wohlgemuth
On Wednesday, March 29, Chef Keegan from The Lakehouse Bakery shared different dining aspects from the 1930s and how they differ from the 1920s, which was covered in the previous class at the Manchester District Library.
The Great Depression took a toll on all aspects of American life, not just dining. Rent, food costs, real estate, and more all decreased in value by more than 50%. Even with such poverty, many companies that started in the ’30s are still around today, including Jiffy mixes, Heinz ketchup, Twinkies, Snickers, Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies, and so much more! Chef Keegan even made homemade chocolate chip cookies to share. Fun and edible education was had by all who attended.
Join Chef Keegan at the Manchester District Library every other Wednesday as he continues to share Desserts and Dining through the Decades. The next class, on April 12, will focus on the 1940s. Please pre-register on Facebook or at the Manchester District Library.
A huge THANK YOU to Worth Repeating for sponsoring these fun, educational classes!
