Meet new school board member Jeffrey White
by Marsha Chartrand
Three qualified candidates filled out applications to be considered for the school board position left vacant last month by the resignation of Kody Naylor, who had served for a little over two years.
Colleen Schoenfeld, Kathryn (Kate) LaVigne, and Jeffrey White were each considered carefully by the six remaining board members, who asked the candidates two or three questions about their experience and their ambitions for becoming a school board member.
White was selected, and will be sworn in tonight at the regular Board of Education meeting.
Jeff White graduated from Vandercook Lake High School in neighboring Jackson County. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Michigan State University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Following a postdoctoral fellowship with Kansas State University Distinguished Faculty member William G. Fateley, he joined the professional staff at the Jonathan Amy Facility for Chemical Instrumentation at Purdue University.
In the mid 1990s, Jeff returned to Michigan for a job in Ann Arbor. He married Jill Noble in 1998 and moved to Manchester. Their two children both graduated from Manchester Community Schools. Jeff’s career in research and development of THz inspection equipment allowed him to work with a number of interesting partners in the US and around the world (NASA shuttle program, Air Force F-22 and F-35 aircraft, Tesla, 3M) along with a wide variety of other measurement applications.
He retired in mid 2022 and is excited to be able to help the Manchester Schools and community.
Jeff can be reached at (734) 419-1977 and by e-mail at jwhite@mcs.k12.mi.us.
