After completing a total of 13 lead water-line replacements in 2022, the Manchester Village Department of Public Works has already replaced six this spring.

The favorable warmer weather in the past couple of weeks has allowed the DPW, along with contractor Lester Brothers, to do the line boring more quickly and efficiently. And the availability of the American Rescue Plan Act funds is allowing the village to absorb some of the additional cost on the more complex line replacements.

Starting out with more than 100 lines that needed replacement within a 20-year period, the Village committed early on to doing the replacement as quickly as possible. DPW Supervisor Brent Jones reports that the number is now “under 70” homes that need line replacement, which is remarkable especially due to the small size of the village’s DPW crew and the variety of work they perform throughout each week.

Monthly DPW brush pickup will begin on Monday, May 1, and once all streets have been covered once, pickup will cease until June. Please have your brush at the roadside by Sunday night, April 30. Brush should be placed parallel to the road.
