A senior fraud prevention workshop has been set for Saturday, June 17, from 10am to noon, hosted at the Manchester Senior Center located at 410 City Rd, Room 108, in Manchester. The event is co-hosted by Manchester United Methodist Church. For more information, contact the church at 734-428-8495 or email dburns@manchesterumchurch.org

You can protect your financial resources and peace of mind by learning the methods employed by scammers and using a few basic prevention strategies. Learn how to protect yourself against some of the most common frauds and scams! This workshop, led by Alyshia Dyer, will describe various types of fraud, including online and phone scams, and will provide time to practice identifying fraud and for asking questions.

Alyshia is a former Sheriff’s Deputy with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and is a licensed social worker. While doing listening sessions in the Manchester area, she heard about scams directed at rural seniors and wanted to use her expertise to help.

Come and learn new skills to protect yourself and your family from this new pervasive threat that affects everyone — not only senior citizens, although seniors are often prime targets. No advance registration is required but you are welcome to contact the church in advance if you have any questions.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
