Richard William Buss (February 1, 1936 – June 12, 2023)

His Legacy… Richard William Buss, age 87, passed away June 12, 2023. He was born on February 1, 1936, in Chelsea, Michigan, to Clarence and Laura (Feldkamp) Buss. Richard married the love of his life, Brenda Schittenhelm, on March 15, 1958, in Ann Arbor. Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband, caring father, loyal friend, and gentle soul. Very involved in St. John’s United Church of Christ, he was on the board for many years and caretaker for many more. He enjoyed camping, gardening, University of Michigan sports, boating on Pleasant Lake where he lived his entire adult life, and spending time in the kitchen, baking the likes of pancakes, cookies, and muffins. 

His Family… Richard will be missed by his wife, Brenda; his children, Harker (Anthony Smiljkovich) Jones and Tamatha (Jeff Cooper and the late Keith Barnes) Barnes. He is preceded in death by Clarence and Laura Buss (parents), Gladys and Virgil Hines (sister), Marian and Raymond Stockinger (sister), Doris and Ray Alber (sister), and Leroy and Dolores Buss (brother). 

His Farewell… Richard’s family and friends will gather Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home — Hamburg Chapel in Hamburg, Michigan. His Community Farewell will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11am (10am gathering) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home. Pastor Lynn Finkbeiner will serve as celebrant. His burial of cremated remains at Mount Hope Cemetery in Chelsea, Michigan, will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Always Hope Animal Shelter.
