Jinan Hamood, a leading criminal defense and family attorney, announced her campaign for the Washtenaw County 22nd Circuit Court seat being vacated by the Hon. Timothy P. Connors. In her announcement to supporters, Jinan said, “I care deeply about justice in Washtenaw County, and have dedicated my career to helping those who have been most affected by the inequities that plague our legal system. As a lawyer, mother, immigrant, and active member of our community, I am excited by the opportunity to serve Washtenaw County on the Bench, and look forward to an engaging campaign conversation on how we can improve our criminal and civil legal systems for all residents.”
In addition to years of experience in criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation, Jinan is an active member of the Washtenaw County community, holding leadership roles in and volunteering for organizations involved in legal advocacy, healthcare, childcare, and more. Running with a focus on criminal justice reform, supporting diversity, and ensuring that the 22nd Circuit Court continues to provide excellent and accessible services, she has earned the support of a wide variety of elected officials, community leaders, and attorneys and activists from all across Washtenaw County.
Hon. Arianne Slay, who was elected to the Washtenaw County Circuit Court in 2022, said, “As a current Circuit Court Judge, I believe that Jinan is the right candidate to serve our community. She will bring legal expertise, professionalism, and authentic compassion that is needed to contribute positively to improving our justice system for all of Washtenaw County.” 14A District Court Judge Hon. Anna Frushour echoed those sentiments, stating, “I have known Jinan for years, and one thing has always been apparent to me — Jinan cares about this community, cares about her work, and cares about justice. I am proud to endorse Jinan Hamood for Circuit Court Judge in 2024.”
Jinan currently operates her own criminal defense and civil/family law practice in Ann Arbor. She and her husband, Oscar Rodriguez, are the proud parents to two young daughters and live in Lodi Township with their dog, Fitzgerald, a.k.a. “Fitzy.”
