Twentieth Century Club holding potluck
submitted by Diane Du Russel, Twentieth Century Club
The Twentieth Century Club has been in existence since 1899, when a group of ladies gathered to form a club to discuss current events and book reports. Eventually they decided to have a theme every year in which subjects would be investigated and the information shared with the rest of the club.
Last year’s program was “Game On.” Topics covered over the year were Early 1900s Games, Board Games, Card Games, Arcade/Video Games, and Game Shows. We learned about the origins of Hopscotch, Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders (Chutes and Ladders) — some were from over 4,000 years ago and we still play them today. Speaking of today — new games are constantly being produced like Catan and all of the additional iterations along with the video games like Pikmin for Nintendo Switch.
This year’s program is “Let’s Cook.” Each month, September through May, the ladies will meet the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm to share recipes, give cooking tips, and enjoy tales of times in the kitchen. Would you like to join us to learn about Yooper pasties, German potato salad, interesting salads, and main courses? Join us Tuesday, September 12, at 6:30pm for a potluck at the pavilion in Chi-Bro Park.
