The Klager and Riverside PTO is getting ready for their annual Dutch Run (formerly known as the “Fun Run”). The Dutch Run will be held on September 29 at 9am for Riverside Intermediate students and 10am for Klager Elementary students at the track in the athletic complex.

The Dutch Run is the main fundraiser for the PTO for the year. Students’ families and other community members pledge money and instead of having to sell something, the students run laps around the track as a fun and healthy alternative. But this year donations have been low. PTO vice-president Jessica Lawson explained, “We try to make our goal in one fundraiser rather than asking for money throughout the year. It has been open for a week and we were hoping to be closer to our goal.”

The money raised is used to pay for PTO–sponsored events, including Donuts with Grown-ups, assemblies (including Jim Basketball Jones), teacher and staff wishlists, the mystery box for fun, Farm Bureau science lab, make your own pizzas at Klager, field trips, the 6th grade Tree Runners trip, Senior Luncheon, Teacher Appreciation Week, and more.

Lawson stated, “Last year, we only raised 72% of our goal. While this allowed us to fund a majority of our events, we still went over budget. Now, more than ever, we need to make our goal of $15,000 to avoid cutting out any fun activities. Currently, we have 25% of students registered and 27% of goal is met, putting us at $4,160 of $15,000. If each family could register their child and share with three to five family members it could make all the difference.”

Students have donation information for donating online but, additionally, checks and cash are accepted at the school office if families want to avoid the online fees or if a community member without a specific student in mind wants to donate.
