WCSO — August 2023 report of police services in the village
provided by Lt. Alan Hunt to Village of Manchester
During the month of August 2023 there were 158 calls for service. During this time, 73 traffic stops were made resulting in 41 citations.
Noteworthy events in Manchester Village in August include:
On August 5, a Collaboration Deputy responded to the 300 block of Ann Arbor Street for a report of extortion. The complainant reported that an unknown suspect had attempted to extort $500 from him or else he would post explicit photographs of him online.
On August 18, a Collaboration Deputy responded to the 1100 block of Nature Trail Drive for a report of fraud. Over the course of several weeks, the suspect, known as “Carlos Briano” and “Saul Barenson,” notified the victim that their social security number had been used in illegal activities, and as a result the victim was directed to send $98,173 to addresses in California. The suspect indicated they were from the Social Security Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency. At this time, the suspect’s true identity is unknown, but it is believed that the incident originates out of West Bengal, India.
Sgt. Joel Gebauer again reminded Council members that scammers are both relentless in their activity and persuasive in their techniques. Residents should be aware of whom they are talking to at all times and if there is any doubt, hang up immediately. Caller ID does not protect you from scammers, because telephone numbers are easily “spoofed.” Gebauer also cautioned that government agencies such as Social Security, Medicare, etc. will not call you; they will contact you by mail first.
Ordinance Violations: Ordinance enforcement deputies provided notices of correction for grass violations in the 300 block of W Madison St, the 500 block of W Main St, and the 700 block of Glen Oak Dr. Main Street parking correction notices were presented to vehicles that exceeded the two-hour limit at W Main and Riverside, W Main and Ann Arbor, and W Main and Adrian. A warning was given to a residence with a blight vehicle in the 100 block of Division Street.
