Manchester’s 2023 Hunger CROP Walk raises $3,000+
submitted by Lon Nordeen
On a beautiful fall day more than 40 walkers, dogs, and babies turned out in Manchester to show their support and fund this important event. The walkers started at Manchester United Methodist Church, 501 Ann Arbor St, and went down Main Street, around town, and back to the church. This year the participants raised more than $3000 of church, school, and direct donations to help fight hunger right here in Manchester, in Michigan, around the nation, and the world! Many are not aware that there are many who need food support right here in our community. While total local donations are still being tabulated, the pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea, and one of the members of the church have a bet. Of the two walkers from Zion the one with the smaller contribution gets a pie in the face. We don’t know the outcome yet.
CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations and groups to raise funds to reduce hunger at home and around the world. A Manchester CROP Walk has been held every year since 1995 —28 years—and local contributors have raised nearly $135,000 for this important charity.
