When a journalist drives by and sees a building owner sitting on the rooftop of his property, it’s one of those sights you just can’t resist. You have to stop and say hello and grab a photo.

And so it was on Thursday afternoon that Ken Magee, owner of the Mill on the River Raisin, just happened to be taking a break from the hard work of renovation that he and his wife, Dawn Donnelly, have been doing for the past year and a half.

One new feature that is particularly breathtaking is the new window/door in the east wall of the Mill that can be fully opened allowing people an unobstructed view of the river and the dam. Magee said they are waiting for a glass half-wall to be installed within the next few weeks but eventually they’d like to put a balcony outside the window for photos.

Their intent is to make the space an event venue and hopefully a distinctive draw to the community. The expectation is that the Mill will be ready for rentals before the end of the year. Watch for more details and an open house for the community during the holiday season.
