Meet Manchester Community Schools’ new district nurse
by Sara Swanson
Manchester Community Schools has employed a new, full-time district nurse, Sarah Roth, DNP, MSN, RN. She is present during school hours, being available to all three buildings at any given time.
Her position covers multiple aspects of keeping the district healthy, from dealing with acute health issues that may present themselves during the school day to monitoring and tracking illness outbreaks and serving as a health resource advocate for all three buildings. In fact, she states that her favorite part of the job so far is being a health resource for the students and staff. In addition, she plans to propose new initiatives for the district.
Roth has been a nurse for almost 15 years with a background in emergency room nursing. She still practices at the University of Michigan Adult ER in a contingent role. She also has been in nursing education for more than 10 years as adjunct nursing faculty at two different universities. She has her doctorate in nursing, focusing on strategic leadership, and plans to use that education in her new role.
She explained why she jumped at the opportunity to work as Manchester Community Schools’ district nurse. She stated, “I was interested in working in the school environment, because my husband and I live in the great community of Manchester and our kids attend the outstanding Manchester school district, and it feels good to give back and invest in the amazing community of Manchester and to especially be there for the kids.”
Roth’s office is located inside of Riverside Intermediate School. Please reach out to her with any questions or concerns at sroth@mcs.k12.mi.us.
