Unshoveled sidewalk after Sunday’s snowfall.

by Marsha Chartrand

With Sunday’s snowfall, it’s a perfect time to remind residents and business owners within the City that there is a snow-removal ordinance in place.

Cpl. Keith DeZwaan, ordinance officer for the City of Manchester at WCSO Station 4, is hoping to see compliance with the City ordinance by all business owners and residents. Michael Sessions, City Manager, also asks residents to pay attention to the ordinance during the snow season, and remove snow and ice from their sidewalks in a timely manner.

What is a “timely manner”?

The ordinance states that residential sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours after the cessation of any snowfall, and that businesses must have their sidewalks cleared within four business hours of the cessation of any snowfall.

If the sidewalk remains uncleared, the City DPW will do the snow removal and an assessment will be added to the resident’s or business’s tax bill, according to Sessions.
