Tammy James, Senior Branch Office Administrator at Colleen Newton, Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Manchester, is happy to work for a company who gives its employees a paid “Day of Caring” to volunteer for a cause that’s close to her heart.

On November 1, Tammy joined other Edward Jones branch employees at the Humane Society of Huron Valley to learn more about the mission of the HSHV and to deliver donations made by the clients at the branch office.

“I had a full car of donations to deliver when I spent my Day of Caring service day at the Humane Society of Huron Valley,” she wrote to clients. “It was an awesome day and the shelter was so grateful for all of the towels, blankets, food, and other items that I was able to take with me, thanks to you!”

The office will be accepting additional items at the branch, located at 118 E Main St, through December 22 and will make various deliveries in December to multiple shelters in the area that have a huge need. A drop box is available in the lobby to begin accepting donations of any of the listed items below.

  • Gently used or new bath towels (The bigger, the better! Washcloths are okay, but please, no hand towels.)
  • Small blankets and pet beds that can be laundered in a normal washing machine and flat sheets
  • Pet food in the original bag/can up to 3 months after the expiration date
  • Scoopable cat litter
  • Canned dog food (They love the Pedigree yellow cans with ground meat!)
  • Waterless pet shampoo, alcohol (must be 70% CLEAR alcohol — no scent)
  • Liquid Vicks solution (for steam vaporizers)
  • Yards of fleece for animal projects
  • Ziploc bags — both gallon and quart sizes
  • Gift cards from places like Amazon.com, pet supply stores, and office supply stores

“After speaking with the volunteers at the shelter, the need increases as colder weather sets in and the holidays arrive,” Tammy said. “Please consider dropping off a donation of any of these items! And a BIG thank you for all of the donations for the animals at the Humane Society of Huron Valley.”

According to Newton, Edward Jones allows each employee one completely paid day off each year for a “Day of Caring,” and she thinks it’s a wonderful program.

“It allows us all to be mindful of giving to and caring for our wider community,” she said.
