Walk-ins at the Health Department for flu and COVID-19 vaccines are welcome during clinic hours all through the month of December 2023. People can stop by without an appointment Monday–Friday from 9 to 11am or 1 to 4pm to get vaccinated (555 Towner in Ypsilanti). Please note that you will likely have to wait to be seen if coming in without an appointment. Those wishing to schedule an appointment can call us at (745) 544-6700.

Note: The vaccine clinic cannot accept walk-ins during the following days/times — Thursday, 12/7 (today) from 1 to 4pm and Thursday, 12/28 from 9 to 11am.

Vaccinations are critically important in protecting health and preventing serious illness during respiratory illness season. The Washtenaw County Health Department encourages everyone to get a flu shot and an updated COVID-19 vaccine. These vaccines can be given at the same time.

For the 2023–2024 season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following:

  • Everyone 5 years of age and older regardless of previous vaccination: get a single dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after your last COVID-19 vaccine dose. If you recently had COVID, you may consider delaying your vaccine by three months.
  • Children 6 months through 4 years: complete a multi-dose initial series with at least one dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Immunocompromised individuals: complete a 3-dose initial series with at least one dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine.

Flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months old and older every year.

The cost for the COVID vaccine has changed, and we are now charging insurance. We accept Medicaid, Blue Care Network, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. We cannot bill other private insurance. If you do not have health insurance, please tell us when you schedule or come in for a vaccine. We won’t deny services to people who are unable to pay or are uninsured.

Editor’s note: COVID vaccines are also available from pharmacies in Tecumseh, Chelsea, Brooklyn, Grass Lake, Saline, Jackson, Adrian, and Ann Arbor. Visit https://vaccines.gov/ to search for pharmacy options.

FREE, door-to-door, accessible transportation to and from any COVID-related service (vaccines, testing, mask pick-ups, etc.) in Washtenaw County continues to be available through the Vaccinate Washtenaw Program. This program is open to anyone of any age in Washtenaw County. Transportation is booked through the AARP Ride@50+ program, powered by Feonix – Mobility Rising. Just call (734) 773-0907 or (844) 900-4892 and use the code “Vaccinate Washtenaw” to book the free ride(s). It’s a one-phone-call process to book a ride.

Can’t easily leave your home to get your COVID-19 vaccine or booster? Disability Rights Michigan can help. Call 1-800-288-5923 and let the representative know that you would like a vaccine given in your home. If you are getting a COVID-19 vaccine, they can also bring flu vaccine at the same time.
