Horning Farms to donate 196 pounds of ground beef to area food pantries
by Sara Swanson
We reported at the beginning of December that Horning Farms had put a new spin on their traditional end-of-the-year ground-beef donation program and were holding a friendly competition. Whichever of five area food pantries received the most donations of ground beef at the end of the month, Horning Farms would make a one-to-one donation match. People were able to donate a pound of ground beef for $5 through a link on Horning Farms’s website.
Horning Farms announced last week that the Manchester Community Resource Center (CRC) received the most donations, having 61 pounds donated, so it will have that matched and will receive 122 pounds of ground beef!
Carol Wotring, director of the CRC stated, “Horning Farms’ Food Pantry Face Off was a fun way to bring attention to the very real concern of food insecurity in our area. I am grateful to everyone who donated ground beef to any of the food pantries involved in the Face Off. It was a great way to make high-quality Horning Farms’ ground beef accessible to all of our neighbors. And I am very excited to receive 122 pounds of ground beef for the Community Resource Center’s food pantry! Thank you, Horning Farms!”
Faith-in-action had 28 pounds donated and the Saint Louis Center had 46 pounds donated. In total, the three food pantries will be receiving 196 pounds of ground beef.
Katelyn Horning of Horning Farms stated, “Yes, (the program) was very successful! We were so happy to have the community support their local organizations. We at Horning Farms are also happy to match the donations made to the winning organization of the Food Pantry Face Off.”
