As reported by Lt. Alan Hunt, WCSO

During the month of February there were 142 calls for service. During this time, 77 traffic stops were made, resulting in 24 traffic citations.

Noteworthy events in Manchester City during the last month include:

On February 25, a collaboration deputy responded to the 200 block of South Washington for a report of stolen beehives. The complainant reported that between February 18 and February 25, an unknown suspect stole several beekeeping hives, traps, honey supers, and honey; valued at $2,100. At the time of this report, it’s unknown who the suspect(s) is but it’s likely they are familiar with beekeeping.

Ordinance violations – 1 –  in the 500 block of West Main Street — blight; letter sent to owner of property.

Sgt. Joel Gebauer reminded Council of scams prevalent at this time of year, particularly that income-tax refund fraud is increasing during the “tax season.” Residents should be aware of scammers pretending to be with the IRS and should avoid talking to anyone who calls requesting payment of “tax liability” in gift cards.

Gebauer also reminded residents that in recent months the Station 4 (Manchester) line has received a number of voice mails. This is an unpublished, non-emergency line that rings only into the Station 4 office. The concern is that if any of these calls were of an emergency nature, because deputies are out on patrol for most of their shift, the calls for help are not heard promptly. Fortunately, there has been no loss of life or property reported from these calls; but some of the calls could have resulted in serious consequences.

Please use the county-wide NON-emergency dispatch number (734-994-2911, x8), where your call is triaged by dispatch staff, and which all residents should be using if they are unsure if they have an “emergency” situation to which officers should respond. Do not call the Station 4 number, and if you have it posted on your refrigerator or by your telephone, please remove it immediately!
